Grants Pass, OR (PRWEB) February 03, 2012

"In my research, I have discovered that aside from causing health problems such as obesity and diabetes, sugar is also addictive, dehydrating and a significant factor in dry eye and other vision problems. I strongly advocate increased research and public education." -Sharon Kleyne, Feb 2, 2012

Sharon Kleyne, host of the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water has been researching the harmful effects of over-consumption of sugar for decades. Since 2007, on her radio show, she has discussed the adverse effects of sugar with numerous diet, health and vision researchers. The consensus is that sugar consumption is a major contributor to the current worldwide diabetes and obesity epidemics and can be a factor in dry eye disease, macular degeneration and other eye problems.

Sugar intake, Sharon Kleyne notes, is a known factor in adult onset diabetes, metabolic rate disorders, hormonal imbalance, high blood pressure, poor liver functioning and increased use of prescription medications. According to Mrs. Kleyne's research, every one of these disorders can cause eye diseases such as macular degeneration or dry eye, or dehydration (systemic water loss) that can lead to dry eye.

According to Mrs. Kleyne, refined sugar, fats and salt can also set up unhealthy food cravings that may be difficult to overcome. These foods are all dehydrating when consumed in excess. .

Several past guests of the Sharon Kleyne Hour Power of Water radio show have talked with Sharon Kleyne about health and vision problems caused by excessive sugar intake.

Philip Paden, MD, an Ophthalmologist in Medford, Oregon, appeared on the show as an advocate of the vegan diet. He specializes in cataract surgery and eye damage from diabetes (macular degeneration). It is well known, according to Dr. Paden, that diet, especially the over-consumption of sugary foods, is the primary cause of adult onset diabetes.

It can be a complicated issue to fully grasp specialized illumination systems. The key to getting all of the magnitude of a typical illumination strategy is in understanding DMX Lighting effects Concepts.

The first of the fundamentals that must definitely be recognized is incorporated in the term InDMXIn. It's limited for digital multiplex, as well as the entire term is really InDMX 512In. The 512 signifies just how many programs, or control options, are typically in a arena. A arena could be the total number of programs inside of a DMX 512 setting.

A illumination builder would employ a DMX 512 create to control signals, dimmers, haze units, or any situation that is hooked up into this files steady flow. Frequently it's simpler to consider it a means to speak with equipment, much like the way your personal computer declares with peripheral devices like photoshop download watches and rodents.

Explore the incredible science documented in Doctor Masaru Emoto's Landmark work, "Messages FromWater". Years of experimentation by researchers from around the world have demonstrated that water is responsive to the energies it experiences. Agiven volume of water will absorb the positive and negative energies it gathers in its travels in perpetuity. When we consume water, we are also consuming the energetic memory it contains. Eliminating the toxic effects arising from your unwitting consumption of negatively charged water (Including the water in your food and other drinks) is essential to developing a sustainable physical and mental health state. Use theseremarkable ICMs (Intent Charging Modules) in your day to day life to cleanse negative energy from the water you consume, as you instill positive energies specific to your life goals. These ICMs are intended to increase the power of your intentions. It has been demonstrated that our ability to project intent is limited by the quality of our mental and spiritual focus. These ICMs are designed to act like a Quantum amplifier increasing the intensity of the positive energies you project which increases the volume of positive energy in the water you consume. Commonly question about 12th Project Lite

Question :

Is it illegal to carry a knife whose blade flips out at...?

In the state of South Carolina, is it illegal to carry a knife whose blade flips out at the press of a button? The blade is right at 4 inches long and I heard it is illegal to own a switchblade. In my mind, a switchblade is the type of spring loaded knife where the blade shoots straight up from inside a closed handle.

My blade swings out, like a regular pocket knife, just using a spring instead a flick of the thumb. It has a safety on it that keeps it from opening in your pocket and such, and it also locks into place when open. It doesn t have a serrated edge, although the back side of the blade has decorative cuts that look almost like a serrated pattern.

I walk late at night and I never carried any kind of weapon until I was followed home twice in one week. Luckily while they were circling around the neighborhood for another pass I made it inside without anyone seeing which house I went in to. I believe they were just concerned neighbors from the subdivision next to mine where I was walking, but it s best to not take any chances. I ve also had several dogs approach me, and while I ve never had a problem with dogs being angry towards me, I don t want a stray to B-line straight for me and bite my neck off while I have to just watch until I bleed out. :(

After this I started walking with a Heavy Duty Maglite. I walk 6 miles (or close to it; I measure my distance by time since I don t have a pedometer or any other means to calculate my exact walking distance). I usually start walking between Midnight and 3 am and end by 6 am at the latest.

Of course, I occasionally have people yell and throw things at/near me, and I ve also run into a couple of groups walking from one project to another, containing anywhere from 4 to 12 people, and they re not always nice. I felt pretty safe with my MagLite but I have since also started carrying a Gas Station $1 key-chain knife that s tiny (1.5" long, maybe).

I was already worried about carrying the small knife because I didn t know the exact laws but after reading up it seems to be ok as long as I don t use it in the commission of a crime. I get stopped usually around twice a week, sometimes the officer just asking me what I m doing but other times getting a Terry pat or being fully searched (with permission). I get messed with more often than normal because there are so many policemen for our small town, they don t recognize me. Add to that I live in a very nice neighborhood, which is surrounded by the ghetto and everyone assumes I m walking over to get drugs or whatever else.

I would like to start carrying my new knife with me because I will feel much safer, but being that I get stopped so often I don t want to go to jail for it. I feel like I have the right to carry some sort of protection... especially when I could walk around with a shotgun or rifle and be within the law, from what I have come to understand.

Does anyone know if this style of knife is legal to carry on your person, probably concealed in a pocket?
Answer :
South Carolina does not define switchblades as illegal. However it does consider any knife with a blade over 2 inches in length as a Deadly Weapon. It is illegal to carry one concealed. You also need to be aware that once you pull your knife you are subject to mandatory prison sentences if found in the wrong. South Carolina is a favorite for knife law questions and it is because they have their Deadly Weapon statute combined with the firearm offenses.

"Any person carrying a deadly weapon usually used for the infliction of personal injury concealed about his person is guilty of a misdemeanor, must forfeit to the county, or, if convicted in a municipal court, to the municipality the concealed weapon, and must be fined not less than two hundred dollars nor more than five hundred dollars or imprisoned not less than thirty days nor more than ninety days. Nothing herein contained may be construed to apply to (1) persons carrying concealed weapons upon their own premises or pursuant to and in compliance with Article 4 of Chapter 31 of Title 23, or (2) peace officers in the actual discharge of their duties. The provisions of this section do not apply to rifles, shotguns, dirks, slingshots, metal knuckles, or razors unless they are used with the intent to commit a crime or in furtherance of a crime."

Commonly question about The Mind Killer Defense.

Question :

If a radio shock jock says that a man is a killer with blood on hands, and the man is shot, is there liability?

Putting aside the issue of the radio clown s potential liability, I just want to know if the commercial producer, presenter, publisher of the radio clown s comments has any possible liability?

It s not a First Amendment question here. The clown can be a clown, and the Constitution protects him fully unless he acts with specific intent to cause a specific intentional homicide -- like the death of Dr. Tiller. who was called a Baby killer, and a man with blood on his hands. The radio clown is similar to a professional wrestler who gets physically tossed out of the ring and lands on somebody in the audience causing injury. Nobody would imagine that the wrestler should be sued for the injury. The radio clown is similarly situated.

But the people who set up the arena, and the ring, and the chairs for the audience, and who charged admission, or sold advertising so they could make a profit on the professional wrestling exhibit -- they might have some liability, don t you think?

And the publishers or broadcasters of Radio Clown remarks that foreseeably could get a specific individual to be the target of public rage and anger -- and then that guy later gets shot in his church, standing there as an usher -- yes it seems like a case that should go to the jury, first to decide if there s adequate evidence of causation, and second to decide if there s adequate evidence of liability (duty, breach of duty, proximate cause, and damages).

Tiller s family may or may not have a cause of action for wrongful death against a corporate defendant who presented to millions of people in the general public the hateful remarks of a shock jock exercising what are arguably his Constitutional rights. If the station had reason to know or the suspect that they might be contributing to the possibility of harm to Dr Tiller, it would seem that a jury should have a chance to make the determinations of what the facts are under the law as it applies to incitement, and accessory before the fact to a wrongful death. Heaven forfend we should ever put a muzzle on any radio clowns -- but the people that hire them, and write their paychecks, should perhaps be held to some accountability for the foreseeable consequences of their editorial judgments, and actual on-air presentations. A man a dead. Justice should be done. Supposedly we have a civilized country here -- one that we are trying to hold up to the world as an example for how other nations should behave and administer their laws. All opinions are welcome -- they don t have to agree with my initial "take" on this matter. Tell me what you really think. My mind is not empty, but it is open. I m ready to give the kudo to the best opinion, and possibly to re-arrange some of my own thinking on this matter if you have a well reasoned view that seems more ethical than my own and more just. Legal citations are not required, but would be welcome, and if they are disposative, factored in. Imagine you are the trial judge. The defense has moved to dismiss on a summary judgement motion (the facts being what they are and stipulated by all parties). What is your opinion "Your Honor"?
Answer :
I doubt that he is legally responsible in any way.

But ethically and morally, he was an accomplice to this horrendous crime.

Hate radio spews hate. That s what it is intended for and that s what it does. Anyone who thinks otherwise is deluding themselves.

You will NEVER see any of those clowns learn their lesson; they have no remorse for anything they do or say.

Godspeed, Dr. Tiller.
Question :

How could you trade a human life for a pizza?

This is just so disturbing to me.

Killer Gets Life Sentence Plus Pizza In Plea Deal

PORTLAND, Ore. - A New York man who pleaded guilty to murder in Oregon in exchange for buckets of fried chicken will get calzones and pizza to go with his life sentence.

Tremayne Durham, 33, of New York City, admitted last month that he fatally shot Adam Calbreath, 39, of Gresham, in June 2006. Durham wanted to sell ice cream and ordered an $18,000 truck from an Oregon company. He later changed his mind, but the company wouldn t provide a refund.

The would-be ice cream man came to Oregon and killed Calbreath, a former employee of the company, while looking for its owner, authorities said.

Durham agreed to plead guilty to murder but only if he could get a break from jail food. The judge agreed and granted Durham a feast of KFC chicken, Popeye s chicken, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, carrot cake and ice cream.

After Wednesday s sentencing, Durham was to get the rest of the deal calzones, lasagna, pizza and ice cream, his defense attorney confirmed. They will pay the tab.

Durham also got married Wednesday in a civil ceremony at the Portland courthouse. The wedding to Vanessa Davis, 48, also of New York City, was not part of the plea deal that will give Durham a chance for parole after 30 years.

Deputy District Attorney Josh Lamborn said Multnomah County Judge Eric Bergstrom made the right call in allowing the unusual plea agreement because it saved the expense of a trial and possible appeals.

Why would anyone in their right mind be against a DEBATE under these conditions?(to settle the issues)?

I saw on CNN that IRAN wanted to have a debate with the USA. That s what "diplomacy" on some levels is all about, right? Why would that commentator say it was a silly idea? by Mrs TeePot

A pervasive pattern of distrust and suspiciousness in which the person consistently interprets the motives of others as malicious is characteristic of Paranoid Personality Disorder. The main difference between Paranoid Personality Disorder and Psychotic Disorders involving Paranoia is Paranoid Personality Disorder does not involve delusions, while Psychotic Disorders do. People with Schizoid Personality Disorder Are pervasively indifferent to social relationships, express a limited range of emotions in social situations, often prefer to be "loners," and usually function adequately in non-social situations. Schizotypal Disorder of the Personality is characterized by a pattern of social and interpersonal deficits involving severe discomfort with and limited capacity for close relationships, as well as perceptual and cognitive distortions and odd/eccentric behavior.

People with Histrionic Personality Disorder often act sexually seductive, have exaggerated though shallow emotions that shift rapidly, are easily influenced by others, seek constant reassurance/praise, and may consider relationships to be more close than they really are. Often preoccupied with fantasies of power and success, people with Narcissistic Disorder of the Personality display a pattern of grandiosity, need for admiration, and lack of empathy, which can lead to exploitative relationships. Borderline Personality Disorder is characterized by a pattern of instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image, and affect, significant impulsivity (e.g., suicide threats, substance use), and fear of abandonment/domination. The dominant defense mechanisms used by a person with Borderline Personality Disorder are Splitting, idealization, and projective identification. Developed for the treatment of Borderline Personality Disorder, Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Emphasizes mindfulness, social skills training, and affect regulation.

A person with Antisocial Personality Disorder Must have had symptoms of Conduct Disorder before 15 y/o and demonstrate a pattern of disregard for and violation of others rights; some symptoms include lack remorse/empathy, impulsivity, irritability and aggressiveness, and deceitfulness. Another term used to refer to people diagnosed with Antisocial Disorder of the Personality is Sociopath. Avoidant Personality Disorder is characterized by a persistent pattern of social inhibition, feelings of inadequacy, and hypersensitivity to negative evaluation, resulting in limited social contacts despite a longing for contact and relationships. The diagnosis of Dependent Personality Disorder Is given when there is a pervasive and excessive need to be taken care of, leading to clinging and submissive behavior and fears of separation; people with this disorder often struggle to make decisions and take responsibility for their lives.

Typically, Codependency refers to a person's deliberate or inadvertent support of another's addiction or dependence. Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder of the Personality is characterized by a persistent preoccupation with perfectionism, orderliness, and mental and interpersonal control, which severely limits openness, flexibility, and efficiency. Reaction formation-defending against an unacceptable impulse by expressing its opposite-is a defense mechanism that people diagnosed with Obsessive-Compulsive Personality Disorder most often rely on.

Commonly question about An Interesting Introduction to Psychology - Personality Disorders

Question :

Which 2 courses are the most interesting and Why? Be Specific please...?

1----------------------
PSY385 - Communication and Conflict Resolution
According to communication researchers, people inevitably disagree when they interact. However, we can learn "win-win" communication skills to avoid and manage conflict situations in personal, social, and work relationships. Students will learn how to take the bite out of criticism, replace blame with empathy, substitute assertiveness for aggressiveness, and improve decision making and problem solving. Find out how to increase your perception of situations, improve your abilities as both a speaker and a listener, and discover the power that comes with being a good communicator.

2 ---------
PSY172 - Group Dynamics
More than ever before organizations recognize the value of individuals who possess the skills to work effectively with others in cooperative, team-based environments. This subject will assist you in developing and enhancing your abilities to interact effectively in group situations without sacrificing your creative intellect and independence of thought. Different types of group situations will be explored together with the styles of leadership appropriate to each.

3---------------------

PSY100 - Introduction to Psychology
The discipline of Psychology is the study of human behaviour. It is concerned with the observable behaviour of an individual and its relationship to unseen mental and physical processes, as well as to external events. Introduction to Psychology will provide a framework within which the student can begin to explore the human personality.

4------------
PSY206 - Personality and Abnormal Behaviour
The study of deviant behaviour, the neuroses, psychoses, character disorders, and conditions due to organic brain involvement; methods of treatment, including psychotherapy, group therapy, and others; and the role of the psychologist in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of such behaviour disorders.

5--------------
PSY340 - Interpersonal Effectiveness
This subject is designed to enhance the students relationships with other people in various situations. Through discussion and experiential exercises, students will learn, among other topics, how to develop and maintain trust, how to communicate more skillfully, how to assert themselves, and how to resolve interpersonal conflicts.

6---------------
PSY560 - Propaganda and Persuasion
Retailers, marketers, advertisers, the broadcasting industry, the military, public speakers and educators have long understood the principles of social influence. As that knowledge, along with communication technology, has increased, so has the amount of influence that screams for our attention daily. This subject will outline the major tools and theories of social influence by demonstrating how the theories actually work in real life. It will also help us see beyond persuasion strategies in order to make more objective decisions and assert greater control over our own behaviour.

7-------------

SCL100 - An Introduction to Sociology
People are social animals and Sociology seeks to explore the nature of this socialization. Among topics examined are membership in various groups and institutions, how one is socialized to play a variety of roles, the family, social class, bureaucracy, the power structure, and race and ethnic relations. Through examining human behaviour in various settings, students will learn to sharpen their observational, descriptive and analytic skills.
Answer :
If you are looking to become a therapist or counselor and want to work in the field I would recommend #4 PSY206 - Personality and Abnormal Behavior

I think in terms of a course that will help you in life and social situation I would recommend PSY385 - Communication and Conflict Resolution.

#5 PSY340 - Interpersonal Effectiveness sounds like some DBT freak who wants to try to do therapy with students with them consenting for credits...Which unless you have borderline personality disorder I would stay away from that one

PSY172 - Group Dynamics and SCL100 - An Introduction to Sociology sound like basically the same thing.

PSY560 - Propaganda and Persuasion and PSY100 - Introduction to Psychology will probably have the least real life application.

I am a Mental health and Addictions counselor. I got my bachelors of science in psychology and my Masters of science in counseling.
Question :

Worried about my mental health?

I d like to start this off by saying that I have an A-level in psychology, behavioural and stress/distress psychology both playing a large part in my education of the subject. Those topics touch on personality disorders and depression respectively, that is to say I m more (officially) educated regarding mental health than most teenagers, convincing themselves that they are depressed or mentally unstable because it s an easy excuse or because it makes their flat existence seem more interesting.

However for a while now, atleast two years or so. I ve haven t been feeling particularly happy or fulfilled, I ve started to feel increasingly alienated from my friends, my sleeping pattern is messed up, I m a chronic procrastinator, I constantly lack motivation and energy, in the past few years my appetite has gone from being over-active to pretty much non-existent, I don t like to leave my house very much and the prospect of talking over the phone always induces anxiety. Often I would rather be left to my own company, usually under the pretence of doing some college work which I m greatly behind on but sometimes just to procastinate. This behaviour is affecting my attendence at college severely and I m now in very real danger of getting kicked out. The threat of that causes such distress, it s not unusual for me to contemplate suicide, but I m really not one for anything nearly so dramatic or selfish, It usually occurs to me as a result of a "**** me life seems a bit like trying to sprint through the mud at Passchendaele" style of thinking.
Now, the whole purpose of that introduction up there, was to give the idea, that I m not one to call the depression card without good reason, I m greatly aware that the majority of self-diagnosis s of depression result from someone reading a list of symptoms and saying to themselves "Well I must be depressed!". I m aware it s a serious illness, and if anything, I ve been avoiding the big ugly D word , mainly because I wouldn t like to think of myself as being depressed, but you don t need an A-level in psychology to put my blue mood together with my symptoms and confidently arrive at the conclusion of depression.

It has also come to my attention that I, in most likelihood, possess a personality disorder, a form of the C type personality disorder, dependant anxiety. This renders me completely passive, rather than act with any sort of independence to achieve what it is I want to achieve, I ll always just go along with the flow, doing what others are doing, so that they can gain, and not I. If people are staying late round my house and I want them to leave so I can go to bed, I won t speak up, and asking people for anything they owe me feels so awkward that people never pay their debts of fufill their promises to me, because they know I won t mention it. I can t stand the idea of being a burden to people, so I m extremely cautious not to interact with them to the point my interaction becomes a bother, which means never asking for things or mentioning anything potentially embarrassing to the other person, it s like a great shyness, in layman s terms, I m just a big ol coward. I m pretty sure I can pinpoint the exact moment in my childhood that I suddenly started to feel like this and this attitude became who I am. Confidence has always been non-existent for me. in short, I ve always been the quiet type well, not always, I was boisterous as a young child, I can remember that, but that has been a thing of the past since that moment I mentioned earlier.

The point of this question is that I am far, far too reserved (possibly an effect of my dependant anxiety) to ever mention that I honestly feel that I have depression, either casually or dramatically. I don t want people to think I m a lame, boring, lazy-**** sadcase but then I don t think I could handle the either the sympathy or the "get over it" response that might be evoked from telling people the truth.

How the heck do I tell people what s going on with me? I don t reckon any of my friends would be considerate or believing in the matter, I ll probably get mocked for being such a drama queen, the little family I have left are likely to react in the same way too.

Wat Do?
Answer :
Hi,

I think it s possible to get hung up on labels and diagnoses. Remember, a diagnosis is only useful if it leads to a distinct treatment plan. Labels aside, it sounds as if you re experiencing a distressing time, beating yourself up, putting other s wants and needs before your own, engaging in sabotaging behaviours (which, I m guessing, mean you then beat yourself up even more), and having an understandable emotional response. This is a more accurate description of your unique psychological process than, depression.

You seem articulate in talking about your experience. From what you say about friends and family being unsupportive, I d say you need to find someone who would be non-judgemental and supportive. Maybe you should consider a mental health professional such as a counsellor or psychotherapist. You would then be able to explore and describe your psychological process in more detail, as well as letting yourself experience some of your emotions, and this would be a good platform for deciding to make changes.

I ve worked in mental health for seven years.

WebTeam CorporationThis is a simple app that lets your child learn spelling in an interactive way. Spell Me app utilizes ABA method of intervention delivery to children with developmental disabilities, special education needs or Autism. This app is part of iLearnNEarn App series and is organized into multiple Learn Play sections. Each section has pictures as visual prompts. Here is how the app progresses - STEP1 Training Spelling of each word is displayed in one screen. STEP 2 DT/Play - The Play part of a LEARN PLAY section works like this - Each screen displays word along with distracters - the child selects correct spelling of the prompted word from the options shown STEP 3 Reward - Each correct response is rewarded with an animation ABA iLearnNEarn App Series===============As we know, the recommendation of 40 hours per week of ABA programming as employed by Lovaass study has been cited by many parents as being vital to their childs success. The National Research Councils 2001 report (p. 184) summarizes the skills necessary for implementing an effective ABA program as: Teachers must be familiar with theory and research concerning best practices for children with autistic spectrum disorders, including methods of applied behavior analysis, naturalistic learning, incidental teaching, assistive technology, socialization, communication, inclusion, adaptation of the environment, language interventions, assessment, and the effective use of data collection systems. Specific problems in generalization and maintenance of behaviors also affect the need for training in methods of teaching children with autistic spectrum disorders. The wide range of IQ scores and verbal skills associated with autistic spectrum disorders, from profound mental retardation and severe language impairments to superior intelligence make the need for training of personnel even greater. iLearnNEarn offers series of apps based on ABA which help parents and teachers with minimum knowledge of theory. These apps provide supplemental intervention and are delivered through mobile device, tablets and iPads. It also helps introduce generalization in different settings. The content is reviewed and approved by the expert educators and researchers from the Autism industry and are based on ABA therapy (the only scientifically-validated treatment for children with developmental disabilities, special education needs or autism). This app records score information for progress tracking and analysis purposes. Recorded scores are also used for customization of the assignment of the new educational material delivered through the app as the user progresses with the targeted skills.

Van Nuys, California (PRWEB) May 09, 2012

Aviisha Medical Institute, LLC, an industry leader in portable home diagnosis and treatment of sleep apnea, will offer free sleep apnea assessments and 100 dollars off the regular price of the home sleep test beginning May 17, World Hypertension Day, and lasting one week until May 24. Patients anywhere in the US will be able to get a free sleep apnea screening and assessment online. Sleep apnea has been classified as an identifiable cause of hypertension (high blood pressure) by the Joint National Committee on Prevention, Evaluation, and Treatment of High Blood Pressure.

Sleep apnea, known as the silent killer, afflicts 1 in every 5 Americans. People with sleep apnea stop breathing in their sleep for seconds or even minutes at a time and repeatedly wake up gasping or choking for breath. Studies estimate that up to 60% of patients with sleep apnea have hypertension. In patients with sleep apnea, hypertension is often resistant to antihypertensive therapy which can further complicate treatment. Many people suffering from hypertension may not know why or what to do about it, said Dr. Avi Ishaaya, Aviishas co-founder and CEO. Even worse, people with untreated sleep apnea also suffer from its relateddiseases. Testing and treatment is crucial to preserve their quality of life and health.

When untreated, sleep apnea causes excessive daytime sleepiness, poor concentration, non-restful sleep, impaired memory, depression, and anxiety. It also leads to serious cardiovascular complications, including hypertension, heart attacks, heart failures, arrhythmias, stroke, erectile dysfunction, and even death. An alarming 85% of sleep apnea sufferers are undiagnosed and untreated. Research shows that treatment for sleep apnea can substantially reduce daytime and nighttime blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease. Treatment also eliminates excessive sleepiness which increases alertness, enhances productivity, and improves mood.

If you or your partner snore, are overweight, or wake up gasping or choking, you should be tested for sleep apnea immediately, explained Dr. Avi.

Though many people who have never studied depression before dismiss it as simply feeling sad or down in the dumps, the truth of the matter is that depression is a condition that can drastically impair your ability to live your life. Depression is a very real issue that is very far from being "just in your head" and if you are in a place where you are concerned about what you can do to fix it, you first need to be able to look for the depression signs. Depression signs can help you figure out if you are simply going through a rough patch or if you are dealing with a chronic state that you need to get fixed! Take a moment to learn about some of the most common depression signs out there.

One of the first signs of depression that you might notice is that you have recently stopped doing anything that appeals to you. Think about the things that you love to do, whether it was an organized sport like softball or whether it was something as simple as walking around the park every week with a friend,. People who are afflicted with depression often feel as though they are perpetually tired and fatigued, and because of this, it can become very hard to get up the gumption to do anything or to go anywhere. This might mean that you drop out of activities that are very important to you or that you simply no longer see the people that you care about.

Also keep an eye on your eating habits. It is generally believed that a change in eating habits can be a sign of depression. For instance, you might have discovered that your appetite has disappeared, leading to a lot of weight loss, while on the other hand, it might have gone up as you start reaching for comfort foods, which can lead to weight gain. Take a moment to monitor your eating and to figure out what has been happening. This might be something that you need to consider in a longer time frame; there might have been a gradual change over time.

Do you find that you are entertaining thoughts of self-loathing? Many people, when they become depressed, often find that they are having thoughts about how much of a burden they are, or how awful or disgusting they are. These thoughts do not come from any rational place and you will soon discover that this is something that can make a lot of difference to the way that things may or may not get better. Thoughts of self-destruction or of self-harm might also be things that you are entertaining; they are also among the more common depression signs.

Take a moment to think about how often you evidence these and other depression signs and also think about what you can do to take care of this situation. Many people have lauded our e-course program. Without relying on drugs of any type, this impressive e-course program can be instrumental in curing your depression quickly, effectively and safely!

Philadelphia, PA (PRWEB) February 28, 2012

HealthForumOnline (HFO), a nationally-approved (APA, ASWB, NBCC, PSNA, CA-BBS) provider of online continuing education (CE) for psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied healthcare professionals announces the addition of a new online CE/CEU course, A Review of Behavioral Medicine Treatments of Headaches to their expanding online CE resource library.

Neurologists report that 33% of their consults are headache-related, exceeding any other presenting problem (World Health Organization WHO, 2004). Not surprisingly, headaches, considered common disorders of the nervous system, are widespread and often chronic medical conditions. WHO (2004) reports that Tension-type Headache (TTH) alone affects 66% of adult males and over 80% of females. Episodic TTH is the most common headache disorder, reported by over 70% of some populations. Studies in developed countries show 6-8% of men and 15-18% of women experience migraine annually, with the higher female rates attributed to hormonal factors. Cluster headaches affect less than 1 in 1,000 adults, and present mostly in males. Medication overuse headaches affect up to 5% of the population and are more frequent in women.

Headache syndromes result in substantial levels of disability. Most of the lost productivity is accounted for by 25% of migraineurs (Stewart, et al., 1996); with an average 4.5 lost work days annually (Steiner et al., 2003). Moreover, 11% of migraineurs are not even accounted for in these statistics because they are unemployed (Stang, et al., 1998). In addition to productivity-related costs, compared to healthy individuals, migraineurs have significantly higher annual medical costs (Pesa & Lage, 2004), with costs escalating when accounting for the high co-morbidity of psychiatric disorders, such as depression, anxiety, and/or post-traumatic stress disorder.

However, the cost of treating headache is small in comparison with the huge savings that might be made if resources were allocated to treat headache disorders appropriately (WHO, 2004). Through psychoeducation and the provision of behavioral interventions such as biofeedback, cognitive-behavioral therapy, and relaxation, either alone or in combination with pharmacotherapy, mental health professionals play a critical role in helping headache sufferers reduce the frequency, intensity, and duration of headache (Rathier, et al., 2012). Additionally, enhancing adherence to both pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventions can significantly reduce the personal and societal costs of headache. This new online CE course from HFO presents a biopsychosocial overview of headache for practitioners including guidelines for clinical assessment and elements of nonpharmacological behavioral medicine treatments. Strategies to coordinate/integrate care with providers of pharmacological treatment are presented to maximize care and minimize costs.

Psychologists, social workers, counselors, nurses and other allied health professionals can chose from HFOs 20 categories of continuing education (CE) topics related to health psychology and behavioral medicine containing more than 80 online CE courses that are fast, convenient and cost-effective. All HFO CE courses and supporting materials are available online or as downloadable, transportable PDFs. Participants print their own CE certificates. Lastly, HFO routinely updates our online CE courses and enables customers to review these updates for free even after they have completed the CE activity and generated their CE certificate.

For more information on this course or a complete listing of titles in our online CE resource library, visit HealthForumOnline.com.

Birmingham Maple Clinic Reports Teen Depression Gets A New Diagnosis

Birmingham, MI (PRWEB) January 04, 2012

Birmingham Maple Clinic, providers of professional mental health services in Michigan for over 30 years, recently reported that setting realistic New Years resolutions is the key to making positive changes in your life that will last long into the New Year. As reported by the clinics staff, So often we make the same resolutions year after year: Ill lose 25 pounds! or Ill quit smoking for good!, only to find ourselves frustrated when we lose track too quickly and stop trying to meet our goals. The clinic recommends that people try a new approach this year that involves positive self-esteem. As reported by the mental health professionals at the Birmingham Maple Clinic, What about feeling better about yourself this year? Try resolutions that aim at increasing your overall health and happiness, as opposed to making huge goals that may not be feasible, and youll see noticeable improvements in your body and mind throughout the year.

The clinic, citing an article in the Washington Post, recommends that individuals be realistic about goals and consider working on small changes that can add up over time and turn into healthy habits, instead of focusing on major life changes that can be overwhelming to tackle all at once, If you find yourself already becoming overwhelmed with your resolutions, try taking another look at your list. Are your resolutions truly for your benefit? How will changing your behavior improve your overall well-being and general health? When you look at the big picture and handpick smaller goals for yourself, youll be on the right path for improved mental and physical health in 2012, added the staff at the Michigan mental health treatment center.

Madison, Wis. (Vocus) November 4, 2010

The University of Wisconsin System, University of Wisconsin-Extension, and the Wisconsin Technical College System have launched a new Veterans Wisconsin Education Portal to help veterans make the transition from military service to college life. The site located at http://www.veterans.wisconsin.edu guides Wisconsin veterans toward finding the right fit among Wisconsin's public colleges and universities.

With a Wisconsin GI Bill that offers generous education benefits, veterans are increasingly looking to complete their education. But for some veterans, knowing where to start can be a challenge. The new portal helps by providing a single point of entry to the resources, services, and benefits available at all of the UW System campuses and the Wisconsin Technical Colleges. In addition, veterans can call a dedicated, toll-free UW phone line (1-877-893-1640) and speak directly with an advisor.

The new Veterans Wisconsin Education Portal also helps veteran service providers such as county veterans officers, mental health agencies and clinics, by providing them with quick access to the education resources they need to serve Wisconsin veterans. The content and design of the site has been developed by the UW System and UW-Extension in cooperation with the WTC System, the Wisconsin Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Administration agencies, county veterans service officers, and student veterans. The UW System Presidents Office funded the effort with $ 100,000 from Growth Agenda for Wisconsin funds.

Our public universities and colleges must make an extra effort to serve our returning veterans. We owe it to them, in honor of the sacrifices theyve made for our country. With a college degree in hand, they can successfully transition to civilian careers, contribute to Wisconsins economic renewal, and enjoy a high quality of life. The first step is opening the door and creating a friendly, welcoming space where veterans can explore all their options, said Kevin P. Reilly, President of the UW System.

While veterans share many experiences and attributes, they have a diverse set of educational needs, support systems, and individual ambitions. The new Veterans Education portal is a just one of the ways that Wisconsins public colleges and universities help returning veterans find the right educational program to fulfill their career goals. Access to advising specialists at any of the 16 technical colleges and the UW-System will give veterans a jumpstart to their future. Helping veterans move forward will ensure Wisconsin moves forward, said Dan Clancy, President of the WTC System.
