There are many different types of mental health disorders in this world. Mental disorders do not discriminate, they do not care what color of skin you have, how much money you make, where you live, what religion you practice, whether you are young or old, male or female. The impact these mental health disorders can have on your life can be severe. This is why it is important that you pay attention to any symptoms that you have of mental disorders and seek appropriate treatment for them.

Everyone at some point or another will experience anxiety, especially in the face of life changing events. It is also normal to occasional feel down in the dumps. However, when these feelings fill your days and inhibit your ability to function and perform normal daily activities well, it is time for you to seek help from a medical professional. Below is list of some of the most common types of mental disorders faced by people today.

Panic Attacks

A person that is experiencing a panic attack can be overwhelmed with fear and panic. Depending on the severity of the attack, some people may experience heart palpitations, increased breathing, feeling as if they were going to die, that they are all alone and a sense of helplessness. Panic attacks impact your life greatly because they can inhibit the way you function and enjoy life. When you feel that you are going to suffer from a panic attack soon, stop doing everything and take a break instead. You do not want to trigger an attack and put your health at unnecessary risk.

Phobias

These are anxiety disorders that are associated with an extreme fear of an object, a place or a situation. This fear goes above and beyond what is considered as "normal." When it comes to phobias, there are hundreds of different types of them. They range from fear of leaving the house to the fear of bugs, to the fear of heights and everything else in between. A person that suffers from a phobia will do everything they can to avoid the thing or situation. When they do encounter their fear, they will experience intense anxiety which can lead to panic attacks and all the other symptoms associated with a panic attack.

Commonly question about How a Mental Health Disorder Can Affect Your Life

Question :

How can you force a person into a mental health ward?

Can you get someone diagnosed as being bi-polar or as having some other mental health disorder just from describing how the person is? Also; How can you make someone be checked into a mental health ward or locked up?
What are some things you can do to the person to make them want to go. To convince them they need help.
Answer :
No, mental health professionals do not render diagnoses for adults based on information from someone other than the patient.

Unless the individual is an immediate danger to himself or others (i.e., is actively homicidal/suicidal with plans, means, and intent), he or she cannot be committed to treatment against his/her will.

To encourage a person to seek help, start with using "I" statements.

When you ________; I feel ___________; I would like you to _______________ .

Offer to assist the person in locating treatment that works (a provider who is covered by their insurance, in drivable distance, has reasonable work hours).

Good luck,
Dr. B.

p.s. It can be extraordinarily difficult to convince a bipolar person in the midst of a manic phase that he/she needs help. You ll have better luck with this if you wait until he/she hits a depressive phase.
Question :

Sites for teens with mental health issues?

I suffer from depression, OCD, and GAD. Through all my research since I ve been diagnosed, what hit s me the most is realizing how many people my age suffer from various mental health problems. I want to be able to talk to some of these other teens, whether it s to help them better understand what s happening to them, or to just have a friend so I can always know I m not alone. Is there a site or chatroom or something out there where teens with any mental health disorder can talk? Any help is appreciated. Thanks and God bless!
Answer :
You can feel free to message me on yahoo messenger. my screen name is

whimperingtunic

i ve got quite a lot of expirience with mental disorders/illness and have one myself.
Question :

If you have a mental health disorder yourself can you not be a counsellor/psych?

i m 16 and for a while now i have wanted to be a psychologist quite badly.
how the mind works and in particular, mental health disorders interest me
quite literally more than anything.
i am extremely understanding and empathetic and i go out of my way to
listen and try and help peole with their problems 99% of the time.

the thing is,
i have a pretty intense anxiety disorder myself,
and to make matters worse, it is a social anxiety disorder,
i have a very serious fear of blushing and i feel nervous
too easily and stuff.
i m not bright enough to become a psychologist but i was really
hoping to land myself in anything to do with psychology, for eg:
social worker/counsellor, etc
but... if i am extremely shy, will this mean that this job really isn t
suited for me or even possible for me at all to maintain?
Answer :
First, I applaud you for thinking seriously about your career choices, as decisions you make today will effect you tomorrow :- ) Just from reading your question, it seems you are bright enough to do whatever you desire to do.

A master s degree in clinical psychology, clinical social work, or family counseling is pretty much the same as a psychologist, the only difference being that a psychologist has a doctorate. All are able to treat people with mental disorders and other issues.

You may be surprised to know that many many professionals working in the field of mental health have suffered from things like depression and anxiety. In fact, having been to counseling themselves, they realize that this is what they would like to do. And so, of course you can become a mental health professional yourself. That said, it is REALLY important for you to work on yourself right now, learn coping skills and resolve any emotional issues that could become a problem when working in this field.

Being a therapist, contrary to popular belief, can be extremely stressful. If you have not addressed your own emotional issues, working with others with these problems could be very triggering and disturbing for you.

You can be shy and be a counselor, but you will be called on to speak in treatment team meetings and with other professionals with whom you work. Yet, that is a ways off. As with many "shy" people, the college experience (4 yrs.) and graduate school (2+ years) will give you plenty of time and a safe experience in becoming more confident about yourself and speaking with groups of people.

God Bless.
