Why are there some nursing staff in the NHS who are like this?
My Grandad is currently in hospital after taking a bad fall and breaking his hip (he is 87). He is on the orthopaedic ward (not sure if spelt right!) and I went in to see him the other night. There was a very efficient friendly male nurse on who was very kind and assisted to his needs. Just as he was about to go off shift though, my Grandad kept trying to move and get up; he doesnt realise he has a broken hip due to vascular dementia and wanted to use the toilet. The male nurse asked another nurse and two assistants to help and 20 mins later no one was still there. He was shouting in pain, and by that time the nice nurse had gone. It took us three times to get the nurses attention- they were all sitting around the table waiting to go off shift or drinking tea. A couple of assistants seemed really huffy when they had to help him to the toilet. I even saw one too busy making the tea even though the help alarm for his room was going. I work in a mental health ward myself, and would always priortise patients over menial jobs like tea making. My Grandad also cant help what he says because of the dementia and pain he is in and the other night was very aggressive to the staff and said he was going to call the police etc, yet they just seem to treat him like he s a pain in the backside. Why are some staff like this to patients like him?Wow, that is really frustrating. Well, I can tell you that one of my greatest disappointments in my nursing career was to discover that many nurses do not live up to the picture of kind, caring nor conscientious. Also, some nurses go into nursing with the pure intent of helping and service and then become burned out. Instead of recognizing their state of mind, they continue on in the same rut and become bitter. The attitude is reflected in their motivation and initiation to genuinely help their patients with the basics of comfort and care. Finally, the supervision is inadequate and so good work is not recognized nor rewarded. Of course, there is a wide range of performance from hospital to hospital, unit to unit and shift to shift. One of the best things you can do to insure good or even adequate nursing care is to be there with him as much as possible. When family members are overseeing the care, there seems to be more effort by nursing staff.
I m sorry about your grandad. My mom (85) just broke her hip too. She is in a rehab hospital.
Feel angry and guilty?
A few months ago, my Dad decided to break it to me straight after my final exam that he was selling the house I had grown up in for nearly all of my life. This left my Mum and I to have to move down into a tiny cramped house in the village which is nowhere near as nice as the old one. Since moving down, my depression has grown worse. I cry most days and feel angry, though I retain this anger for the sake of my Mum and family. My Dad on the other hand swanned off to Edinburgh to do a degree. Mum and me have been left to struggle financially, and look after her parents; my Gran who has heart failure and Grandad who has vascular dementia. My Dad has been such a pig; I had a letter from him weeks ago, attempting to wind me up, and my Mum is having problems with putting her name on the council tax instead of his, and despite numerous attempts to contact him, he has ignored her. He has taken on a female "lodger" who I am VERY suspicious of, seeing as when he was looking for a flat mate, he made it clear they were going to be the same sex as him. Mum has rented our old house out to this snobby family who I hate the pants off. She likes them, but I simply want her to evict them. I did ok this morning in terms of my depression; I got up, walked the dog and studied for my college work. I am still in the process though of notifying people of a change of address, and when looking for the example letter Mum had done to companies, came across letters etc to solicitors about the sale of the house. This made me very upset, and now all I have on my mind is to call up to the old house and make crank calls to the snobs and withhold the number to make me feel better. What should I do, as I now feel terrible.I can relate to so much of what you have said, not exactly, but SOME of my experiences and feelings can be compared to yours in a very similar way. I know i cannot understand you fully because of the complicated nature of the way external stimuli affects us all in different ways - just remember none of it is our fault as we cannot control it.
I originally came across yahoo answers due to looking for similar experiences to my own mental condition. Due to so many immature, small-minded people being of no help to yourself and others like you, i decided to at last sign up and add my input. Maybe the inconsiderate ones who post useless answers will experience bad trauma or certain life stresses sooner or later, then we can make a mockery of them!
Can you see your doctor about this and tell him you want to be referred to a counsellor/psychologist/psychiatrist?I don t know where you reside, but in the UK, from the experiences i have had and heard, you may have to persevere to get referred. I just know you need and will benefit from support from a professional in the situation you are in at the moment. Please do this - it WILL help - i had my first assessment earlier this year. They cant take the stressfull events you are enduring away, nor will they take away any bad memories. They will however, help you to think differently about these things, in a way that doesn t affect you negatively.
There is so much more to say, but i feel like i am just waffling! Sometimes its just good to communicate with or hear from someone else who can actually understand some of what you are going through.
Just remember you re not alone. I wish you the very best luck in getting help.
My Dad has been so horrid to me and Mum, dont know what to do?
I feel so angry. So I wasnt 100% happy before all this **** started spreading but since June, every morning when I wake up, I keep thinking, I want to die. We had a really nice house in the middle of nowhere, peace and quiet, and then out of the blue, straight after my final exam, my Dad said that he was going down to Edinburgh to do a degree, and he was selling the house. At the same time, my grandparents were very ill. My Nan has heart failure and my Grandad has vascular dementia. So my Mum and me had to move down into this horrid little cramped house in the village, whilst my Dad swanned off to Edinburgh, since he already had a flat there (from my sister when she was at uni). He has money in the bank, whereas Mum is really struggling financially, especially now my Grandad is having to go into a home because my Nans health is going down hill again. We have been unable to sell our old house so Mum has rented it out to these posh toffs who I hate. They rung just now (something to do with post) and I had a go at them; I thought, you twats, you with all your sodding money, whereas we are struggling cos of a 1200 mortgage each month. I am helping my Mum financially as well, but it s not enough. And my Dad is getting worse. When Mum had her council tax bill in his name and has tried to contact him, he has ignored her. He has a so called "lodger" staying with him, ironically a woman, and even had the nerve to send me a letter weeks ago and wind me up about his flat neighbours which were a Polish family, and yet he knew how much I dont get on with the Poles (for my own reasons). Why is he doing this to us? Everyone thinks, including our family, he s been a right bastard. Please help.It sounds like your dad is having a midlife crisis to me. Your mum should divorce him and take him for everything that he has got! Dont give up trying to sell the house that you are renting out to the toffs as your mum will be entitled to half of this. Most of all dont cope with this by yourself, confide in your friends and let them be a shoulder to cry on.
My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's diseases this neuron disease started 25 years before being revealed it was trigged the moment we started eating sugars including any and almost all carbs that break down to glycerol, and he was placed on the best medical treatment approved by united states,(FDA) he has been taking Cholinesterase,Memantine to treat his memory lose, confusion and the problems with his thinking and reasoning.just to help slow the progression and manage the symptoms,as no cure exists I read through with interest. I once believed Alzheimer disease has no cure. Well it is true with English medicine, but not with herbal medicine. My Dad experience opened my eyes to the reality of a cure through herbs. My Father was a vibrant man before his encounter with Alzheimer. He was a scientist, hence his mental capability was never in doubt. In 2013, he was diagnosed with Alzheimer. The symptoms manifested through repeating conversation and gradually forgetting things. It became progressive from finding the right words during conversation, to significant confusion and forgetting details about himself. It was not a good experience, seeing your father whose brilliance had no match, totally became a shadow of himself. His doctors said the disease has no cure, just medications for treatment which had a lot of side effects were administered to him. Early 2016, while on the internet, I bumped into a story of Alzheimer, and I read about a cure through herbs with interest. I researched more to be sure it was not a hoax. In my quest, Doctor James herbal mix medicine was mentioned in the testimony. I contacted him on his email that was provided (drjamesherbalmix@gmail.com) and I got his herbal mix medicine for my father. He told me that his herbal mix medicine will help my Dad to reduce the abnormal protein fold inside his neurons, and regulate the nutrients and molecules in his body system, and as well stop the progressive disorder that build up in damaging his brain cells, and help his weak cells that causes brain shrinking to function well, its a good herbal drinks for cell reparing. This doctor James is super great man and his herbal mix medicine is wonderful and works effectively as he said, with no side effects. It's been 4 years and my Dad is perfectly okay and back to his laboratory work even at old age. For your loved ones with Alzheimer or Dementia, take them off English medicine and use Dr. James herbal mix medicine for treatment. if you have any kinds of health challenges or diseases such as..Parkinson's disease,Schizophrenia,Lung Cancer,Breast Cancer,Colo-Rectal Cancer,Blood Cancer,Prostate Cancer ,Epilepsy Dupuytren's disease ,Coeliac disease,Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease,Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy, Ataxia,Arthritis,Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis,Fibromyalgia,Fluoroquinolone Toxicity
