You've made an appointment with your doctor, and you're nervous. Things haven't been going too well for you lately, and you have the distinct feeling that something about your health just isn't right... you just aren't sure.
The Manic Stage
Some days you are on top of the world, happy, cheerful and carefree. You love the world and everything in it. You'll talk and talk and talk to anyone who will listen to you. You've been spending money like crazy, money you really don't have, which is not like you. For some reason, you are managing to get by with only three or four hours of sleep in a twenty-four hour period. Any other time, you would be exhausted, but you are full of energy.
You feel strong and invincible, like you can do anything you want, and no power exists that is strong enough to stop you. And you don't know what in the world could be wrong with your friends. They are telling you that you're different... loud, angry, and prone to try and start an argument over nothing. One of your best friends mentioned that maybe you were bipolar, and suggested you take a bipolar disorder test. You don't understand what any of your friends are talking about. You don't need any test! You feel just fine!
Depression Stage
Then, there are the bad times. It depresses you now, just thinking about how sad and lonely you felt on those days when all you wanted to do was stay in bed. You didn't have the energy to even leave your house. You felt sick and weak all the time. You didn't feel like seeing or talking to anyone. You couldn't seem to make yourself enjoy anything, not even your favorite television shows and hobbies.
For some reason, you were scatterbrained and forgetful. You were angry and paranoid, but you didn't know why. You had the feeling that life just wasn't worth living, and the good times would never come again. You thought an awful lot about death. Suicide even entered your mind on occasion. This scared you once you felt better and thought back about what you had just gone through.

Commonly question about The Bipolar Disorder Test - Diagnosing The Problem
Why is it that I score "positive" on every single disorder test?
Obsessive Compulsive disorder? Yup, apparently I have it.Borderline or Bipolar disorder? Check!
Schizophrenia? Oh ho ho, big time.
And so on.
I get that I m not exactly the most "sane" person around. I get that I don t think exactly like others and that I have problems. But why do I get diagnosed with everything? Do I literally have every disorder imaginable or is there something bigger I should be looking into?
Most humans do, even psychiatrists. Those tests should be illegal.
Where to get a genetic disorder test done???
I feel it would be foolish to contact Kings Daughter Medical Center or any hospital because I feel they would not have the means nor the ideas of where to get tested.I am diagnosed with AD-HD
I have been adopted and share Little connection with my real family mainly my whole real family has disorders everywhere you go back! I try to stay distant from my real family!
I want to know where I could get a genetic test that would show I was positive for any disorders I may have! I know they have genetics testing but I only see that it is used for diseases and no really disorders....which in my opinion is inhumane...Genetic disorders are more prevalent and are broader than most diseases are!
The reason I want to get tested for genetic disorders is I want to know what can be expected if I have children! I want to know what the possibilities are that they inherit what I considered my childhood as a life-long curse to bear! I m going to college as of now and thought since I found nothing online about getting tested I know schizophrenia, bipolar, mood disorders, multiple personality disorders, and the list goes on and on in my family. I take medication and am extremely bright...which I consider myself blessed for but my question is:. Are there genetic tests I can have done to determine what disorders I have that may affect my future thoughts of having children....????????????????? If there are none I will have no children.
The Irony is I m 18yrs and the very last one in my family to carry on the last name and may not if I cannot get tested! The reason I will not have children is because I will not bring someone into this world bearing what I ve always considered to be a life-long curse. At 18yrs old medical cards cancel for "MOST" children with disorders and cannot pay for their medication resulting in numerous behavioral problems emerging (If they really have problems) They have to go for SSI in which they most always get turned down without a lawyer which is inhumane in my opinion. I have still have the letter turning me down stating, We have reviewed your case, and do not see any cause for it to be disabling in any way) So disorders really take a toll on people in life. I wanted to join the marines 2 yrs ago after high school. I was the best and got the most awards, the most decorated and best in physical shape and couldn t join the service taking medication... It s wrong with all their insecurities of taking medication.
I waited 2 yrs before I could get SSI just to be told I couldn t work and make over 1,300 a month and keep my medical card SSI (Medicaid)...it takes the values of young ambitious peoples lives away.... they can only have 674.00 a month!!! Think of that paying for the least an apartment, they wouldn t have any money to eat maybe bologna and bread, have a car, insurance... So having disorders really changes children s life, and they like to make a bigger deal out of cancer when its not! I do not want to have a child that s illegitimate to society because of prejudice insecurities! Not being about to enter the armed forces if they really wanted to join and having had the qualities and abilities, become a policeman without being turned down by peoples prejudice of a doctors note for the drugs for reasons of peoples insecurities. My question is are there genetic tests I can get that will tell me if I have future children, what their risks of inheriting disorders are??????????????????
There are no genetic tests that can show the presence of absence of mental health disorders becaus ethey have not identified exactly which genes it falls on so they do not even know what to look for.... There are a number of different genes that are or can be responsible for developing these disorders but they don t know if you can develop them with only one gene or if you need say 4 different ones.... Genetic testing for certain diseases (like Tay Sachs) is possible only because they know exactly what to look for.... they just are not far enough along to be able to predict mental disorders.... in addition a person could have all the right genes but never develop the disorder because there may be other factors that cause the disorder to develop... like the genes AND trauma.. they just do not know yet.....

I m so sorry for your troubles. I am guessing that by disorder, you mean psychiatric disorder, right? Assuming that this is what you mean, I can answer your question, but I m sorry that you won t like the answer.
In genetics, we know that there are not single genes which are responsible for psychiatric disorders such as schizophrenia, depression, and bipolar disorder. They are caused by multiple genes as well as by environmental factors, and we do not yet know what all of those genes and factors are. Many studies are in progress in these areas. We do know that these disorders are heritable, with risks of approximately between 1 - 20% depending upon your family history.
No genetic testing is available today, including for prenatal diagnosis.
You can also discuss this with your doctor and ask for a referral to a genetic counselor. The GC can consider your family history and discuss this in more detail with you to help you make future decisions.
Best wishes.
