Birmingham Maple Clinic, providers of mental health treatment in Michigan, recently reported that adults who reported any type of mental illness in the past year were more likely to also suffer from asthma, heart disease or stroke. The Michigan mental health clinic, citing the results of a recent study conducted by the US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), reported that many adults in the US who have reported a mental illness during the last year also reported a physical condition. In the study, 22% of adults who had reported a recent mental illness also suffered from high blood pressure, nearly 16% had asthma and 9% suffered from diabetes. Comparatively, the number of adults who suffered from these diseases but who didnt report a mental illness was significantly lower.
