Though many people who have never studied depression before dismiss it as simply feeling sad or down in the dumps, the truth of the matter is that depression is a condition that can drastically impair your ability to live your life. Depression is a very real issue that is very far from being "just in your head" and if you are in a place where you are concerned about what you can do to fix it, you first need to be able to look for the depression signs. Depression signs can help you figure out if you are simply going through a rough patch or if you are dealing with a chronic state that you need to get fixed! Take a moment to learn about some of the most common depression signs out there.

One of the first signs of depression that you might notice is that you have recently stopped doing anything that appeals to you. Think about the things that you love to do, whether it was an organized sport like softball or whether it was something as simple as walking around the park every week with a friend,. People who are afflicted with depression often feel as though they are perpetually tired and fatigued, and because of this, it can become very hard to get up the gumption to do anything or to go anywhere. This might mean that you drop out of activities that are very important to you or that you simply no longer see the people that you care about.

Also keep an eye on your eating habits. It is generally believed that a change in eating habits can be a sign of depression. For instance, you might have discovered that your appetite has disappeared, leading to a lot of weight loss, while on the other hand, it might have gone up as you start reaching for comfort foods, which can lead to weight gain. Take a moment to monitor your eating and to figure out what has been happening. This might be something that you need to consider in a longer time frame; there might have been a gradual change over time.

Do you find that you are entertaining thoughts of self-loathing? Many people, when they become depressed, often find that they are having thoughts about how much of a burden they are, or how awful or disgusting they are. These thoughts do not come from any rational place and you will soon discover that this is something that can make a lot of difference to the way that things may or may not get better. Thoughts of self-destruction or of self-harm might also be things that you are entertaining; they are also among the more common depression signs.

What are some signs to look for depression when coping with the death of a parent?

I just recently lost my Dad and I haven t really broke down. I have cried for two years, since he got a diagnosis of Cancer. It became terminal in June of this year. I cry at times but not an uncontrollable cry, I feel that he is at peace and that I know he is not suffering. I now feel like I am aching all over - like the flu. Not sure if this is part of grieving. Any help would be helpful.
Answer :
Teri - I am sorry about your dad. The grief process is one that can go on a long while with different reactions. It seems that every where there are reminders for us. I lost my son earlier this year and I still cannot look at family pictures.

Your aches and pains are more than likely from tension, though it is not unheard of to have that symptom with depression. Of course, the first thing you need to think is a possible physical cause, such as a virus or even allergies.

Question :

How to look for Depression signs in Teenagers?

Thanks(:
Answer :
I m a teenager and I m depressed but I try really hard to hide it. You ll notice that the teenager is losing energy fast. My grades dropped dramatically as well. There is an uncontrollable irratibality in a depressed teenager. And a want to stay alone, and an almost apparent sadness.

I self-harm...so i dunno if the teenager you re asking about might be doing that as well..

How about just talking with him/her and try to find out what s up?
