One and Other-Mental Health

Mental health on the Fourth Plinth (One and Other) performance art in Trafalgar Square, London.

I am standing on the plinth to represent people whose voices so often go unheard, either because they don't have the necessary support, or they are socially isolated, or they are quite simply desperately marginalized: people with mental health issues.

According to the World Health Organisation, depression will be the second most costly health problem worldwide, coming second only to heart disease and ahead of cancer.

Despite this, however, and despite the fact that around one in four adults will experience them at some point in their lives, mental health problems are still surrounded by ignorance, fear and prejudice.

Research has shown that prejudice against people with mental health issues is actually increasing, despite social attitudes regarding sexuality, ethnicity and other similar issues improving.

What's with the sticking the tongue out routine? Whenever I photograph someone, they have to lunge the lingua.

I've reclaimed the use of my imagination. For better or for worse, I've yet to know.

I am completely uninspired as far as photography goes. Apparently when I'm depressed, I can take semi-decent pictures but not write. But when I'm manic, I can write but not take pictures. Sooo... this is a month or so old. But I've been waiting for a good moment to use it. It's so glorified and awakening. (At least for me, anyways).

Commonly question about One and Other-Mental Health

Question :

How does one go about getting a test for bipolar/ADD, or other mental health related illnesses?

A counselor recommend I get a cognitive psychological analysis done. What does this mean? Where do you go to get a comprehensive mental health screening? Are they special clinics? Does insurance cover this stuff usually?

She believes I have ADD and should go through a screening, but said they are expensive. What are they called? Thanks!!!!!
Answer :
first go your doctor then he will refer you to a psychiatrist who will order the necessary tests. Good luck
Question :

Is depression and other mental health problems genetic?

I m just curious. I suffer from depression (i m on medication for it) and the majority of my dad s side of my family has a mental health problem, mostly depression and bi-polar disorder. I sometimes worry that when I have kids, they might develop a mental health problem because it runs in my family. One of my cousins is bi-polar and her daughter is too, my dad has depression and is bi-polar and I suffer from depression. I don t know if it s a coincidence or if it s genetic. Again, I m just curious about this.
Answer :
Yes, mental disorders like depression and Bipolar do have a genetic component. That does nto mean that your kids will automatically have it but their chances of developing it are higher than normal.
Question :

If u have ptsd, anxiety or other mental health disorder, u are bad person and others are right to traumatize u?

Is that the opinion of the lawyers everywhere or just the one they forced on me who is now violating her client and traumatizing him, subjecting him to re-traumatization of what happened to him?

Which is it?

Is there a lawyer anywhere who will do what is right and defend me against corruption and false accusations or are you all as worthless as the lawyers in Spokane Washington?
Answer :
Since you do not give actual details as to what the case is about or why you have a lawyer involved, it is impossible to answer this question. Often an individual involved in a court case will have to go over details of an incident which can be an "re-traumatization" of the incident. Often there is little other methods of proving or disproving a case in the court.
