A 15-year-old boy who suffered from an autism disorder was shot and killed by police in his Calumet City home after he threatened officers and cut one of them with a knife, police and the boy's family said. The family called police this morning after Stephon Watts, who suffered from Asperger's syndrome, became upset and did not want to go to school, said his mother Danelene Powell-Watts. Asperger's is an autism-type disorder in which a person often has normal or high intelligence, but struggles with social skills and repetitive behavior. Police were called about 8:30 am to the home in the 500 block of Forsythe Avenue, an address that was familiar with police, said Calumet City Police Chief Edward Gilmore. "This is an address that's flagged in our system as having a autistic young man there who is very strong and likes to fight with the police." Five officers were consequently sent to the home, Gilmore told a news conference. When they arrived, the boy was in the basement, holding a kitchen knife, Gilmore said. Two of the officers went to the basement and the boy "lashed out" with the knife and struck one of them in the forearm, Gilmore said. "At that time, cornered and having no way to retreat back up the stairs, the officers fired one shot each, striking the (boy) twice," Gilmore said. "Unfortunately, the officer thought that his life was in jeopardy." Gilmore was uncertain of where Watts was hit, but his mother said the boy - who stood at 5-foot-10 and weighed 220 ...

Common sense tells you that if a group of unidentified men come up behind your car with guns, the automatic response is to drive off to escape. Are you really going to risk making a 180 degree backwards turn with your car just so you can take out ONE of the many men before your body is filled with 100 bullets? That was the supposed fear when these police officers slaughtered the innocent man who was fleeing for his life after committing no crime whatsoever. Do we really want a country where trigger-happy cops can shoot you in your car for no reason and then make up something clever but ultimately ridiculous after the fact?

My father is an EX Boston cop. Try living with one for almost 18 years. I couldn t go to the bathroom without getting a gun pointed at my face. One time my dog peed on the carpet, that was the last time i would see my dog alive.

The right to *bare arms* does nothing but breed violence . Look at countries where owning guns is illegal . Much much lower rates of gun crime .

Julian, I am not familiar with "gum" violence, can you enlighten me? I have carried a gun throughout my adult life, for work and as a private citizen, I have never used it on anyone who did not deserve it in them most serious sense of the word.
Banning guns is not the answer, if you did, only criminals will own them, much like in those countries where they are indeed illegal.

Shooting a dog that is a threat to me or mine is never a problem to me, but, I dont hunt because I wont kill an animal just because...I need a reason.
Trying to hurt me or mine qualifies as a reason. To close this off, I believe in peace through superior firepower and surprise, I am European born and raised. Hope I helped.
